Three Generations on the Maine Coast

Every summer, our family tries to gather somewhere new. With grandparents in their 80s and grandkids under 5, finding the right place is never simple.

The Challenge

We needed:

  • 6 bedrooms minimum
  • Accessibility for Grandma's walker
  • Safe spaces for toddlers
  • Enough bathrooms for 14 people
  • A kitchen that could handle family meals
  • And views. We wanted views.

Why We Chose Direct Booking

After a bad experience with an OTA (property wasn't as accessible as advertised, and we couldn't reach anyone to help), we decided to book directly.

Through TrustYourHost, we found a lighthouse keeper's cottage turned family compound. The host, Ellen, spent 30 minutes on the phone with us walking through every room virtually.

"The master suite has a walk-in shower with a bench," she explained. "And the porch has a gate we installed when our own grandkids visit."

Perfect.

The Week

Lobster bakes. Kayaking at sunrise. Card games that lasted until midnight. Cousins meeting for the first time. Grandpa telling stories we'd never heard.

Some moments you can't plan. But you can create the conditions for them.

The Family Verdict

Already booked for next year.
