My Month as a Digital Nomad in Lisbon
Working remotely from Portugal taught me that the right apartment is your office, gym, and social hub.

My Month as a Digital Nomad in Lisbon
When my company went fully remote, I decided to test the digital nomad life. First stop: Lisbon.
Finding the Right Setup
For a month-long stay, I needed more than a vacation rental. I needed:
- Reliable high-speed WiFi
- A proper desk and chair
- A neighborhood I could walk
- Proximity to cafes for when I needed a change of scenery
The Alfama Apartment
Through TrustYourHost, I found an apartment in Alfama hosted by JoĂŁo, a Portuguese developer who understood remote work needs.
His listing was detailed about WiFi speeds (150 Mbps, tested monthly) and included photos of the actual workspace. When I messaged about monitor availability, he offered to lend me one from his own setup.
The Experience
Mornings: Coffee from the corner pastelaria, work with the windows open Afternoons: Calls overlooking terracotta rooftops Evenings: Exploring Lisbon's food scene and fado bars
The month flew by. I was so productive that I extended for two more weeks.
Cost Breakdown
- Apartment (direct booking): $1,800/month
- Same property on OTA: $2,300+ with fees
- Savings: $500+
That $500 funded a lot of pastéis de nata.
